eBay's official APIs vs a sold-listings API
Which eBay API returns sold listings? A side-by-side of the Browse API, the retired Finding API, Marketplace Insights, and an independent sold-listings API.
eBay runs several public APIs, and it is easy to assume one of them returns sold prices. Only one does, and most developers cannot get access to it. Here is how the options compare for sold data specifically.
| Browse API | Finding API | Marketplace Insights | eBay Sold Listings API | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sold / completed items | No | Yes (findCompletedItems) | Yes | Yes |
| Active listings | Yes | Yes | No | Yes (sold=false) |
| Status | Live | Retired February 2025 | Limited release | Live |
| Access | Any developer | None | eBay approval | Free key, instant |
| History window | n/a | n/a | 90 days | Recent completed sales |
| Results per call | Up to 200 | n/a | Up to 200 | Up to 240 |
| Marketplaces | Many | n/a | Several | 8 (US, UK, DE, AU, CA, FR, IT, ES) |
| CSV / batch | No | n/a | No | Yes, both |
Browse API
The modern, supported search API. Great for live inventory, but it searches only items that are still for sale. See does the Browse API return sold listings for the details.
Finding API
The old workhorse. Its findCompletedItems call was the standard way to get sold listings until eBay decommissioned the whole API in February 2025. Our migration guide maps every field.
Marketplace Insights API
eBay's first-party sold data: item_sales/search returns items sold in the last 90 days. It is a limited-release API, so you apply, explain your use case, and wait. Many applications are declined or never answered. If you already have access, it is a solid source.
eBay Sold Listings API
An independent REST API for completed sales that anyone can use today. One call returns up to 240 sales with price, date, condition, shipping, seller, and Best Offer flag:
curl "https://api.ebaysoldlistingsapi.com/scrape?keyword=gopro+hero+12&ebaySite=ebay.com" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"Which eBay API gives sold listings?
Only the Marketplace Insights API, which requires eBay approval. The Browse API is active-only, and the Finding API with findCompletedItems was retired in February 2025.
How long does Marketplace Insights approval take?
There is no published timeline, and access is limited release. Many developers wait weeks or are not approved, which is why independent sold-listings APIs are common.
Can I combine the Browse API with a sold-listings API?
Yes. Many apps use the Browse API for live inventory and a sold-listings API for price history. The eBay Sold Listings API also returns active listings with sold=false if you prefer one integration.
